The Lyric Opera of Kansas City has commissioned and premiered a new arrangement of Penelope, Sarah’s highly acclaimed hour-long Odyssey-inspired song cycle for mezzo-soprano, on lyrics by Ellen McLaughlin. The arrangement is for mezzo-soprano + string quintet + drums/percussion + electronics + optional electric guitar. The LOKC gave its world premiere on March 30, 2019, in a new operatic staging by Alison Moritz, with Annie Rosen playing Penelope.
